2015 Fantasy Football: Week 16 Fantasy Tight End Rankings

Not only did he do it in back-to-back games, but it was the third time he did so over the past nine weeks.

Who? What? Washington's Jordan Reed finished as fantasy's TE1 this past week for a second consecutive week.

In his past two games combined, Reed has 16 catches for 204 yards and three touchdowns and has finished with at least 18 fantasy points in each game.

While Reed missed a couple of games early in the season and durability has been the biggest issue with Reed over his young career, there is no denying the talent.

On the season, Reed is averaging 6.17 catches, 64.83 yards and 0.75 touchdowns on 8.25 targets per game.

This week, Reed will face the Eagles, who have allowed the fewest fantasy points to opposing tight ends this season, but he's still my top-ranked tight end not named Gronk.

Here are some more fantasy football notes on tight ends:

  • Speaking of Rob Gronkowski, he has scored in back-to-back games since returning from his knee injury. And he's scored in three straight going back to Week 12. On the year, he has 11 touchdowns in 13 games and has finished as a top-six weekly fantasy tight end in all but three games this season. In his first matchup this season against the Jets, Gronk had 11/108/1 on 16 targets.

  • Saints tight end Benjamin Watson has double-digit targets in back-to-back games and he has now finished as a top-12 weekly tight end in three consecutive weeks. On the season, Watson has 67 catches for 761 yards and five touchdowns and the eighth-most fantasy points among tight ends. Watson gets a great matchup this week as the Jags have allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to the position this season.

  • In turn, Jacksonville's Julius Thomas has the best matchup of the week as no team has allowed more fantasy points to the position than the Saints. Over his past five games, Thomas has scored a minimum of 7.5 fantasy points every week and has a total of 27 catches for 292 yards and four touchdowns over that stretch.

  • Only Gronk has scored more fantasy points than Cleveland's Gary Barnidge this season. Targeted only four times in Week 15, Barnidge had three catches for 29 yards but he scored for a second consecutive week. Since Week 3, Barnidge has scored a minimum of 8.9 fantasy points and finished as a top-12 fantasy tight end in all but two games. Unfortunately, Barnidge has a tough matchup this week as only the Eagles have allowed fewer fantasy points to opposing tight ends than the Chiefs.

  • At one point, it made sense to start tight ends, any tight end, against the Raiders. They have been better at defending tight ends lately, but they have still allowed the second-most fantasy points to the position this season. San Diego's Antonio Gates faces them on Christmas Eve this year. While Gates did not play, teammate Ladarius Green scored two touchdowns against them in Week 7. Gates hasn't scored since Week 12, but he has exactly six catches in three consecutive weeks. It wouldn't surprise me if Philip Rivers and Gates connected for a touchdown, or two, this week.

  • Giants tight end Will Tye has finished as a top-10 weekly tight end in three consecutive games and he could extend that streak if the league upholds the one-game suspension of Odell Beckham. (OBJ will have his appeal heard on Wednesday morning.) That said, Tye has five-plus catches in four of five games and he has either 50-plus yards or a score in all five consecutive games.
