« Cowboys' Bradie James attacks fan | Main | Broncos fire Mike Shanahan »

A new, more Parcells-like Wade Phillips?

I believe the Cowboys need a change at the top. Someone tougher to hold the players accountable.

And that coach is Bill Cowher Wade Phillips. Huh? Instead of bringing in a new, no-nonsense coach, Phillips says he's going to change his style.
"You can't say, 'Well, OK, everything's going to be all right,' because it's not going to be all right if you do the same thing and I'm talking about myself," Phillips said. "I have to look at myself from how I deal with things, from how we have training camp, how we have practices, whatever."

"If it means being more demanding, more whatever, I have to get it done," Phillips said.
You can learn how to speak Japanese. Or learn the Pythagorean theorem. Or learn whatever.

But can you learn to be tough? If you're inherently a nice guy? No.

Cowboys LB Bradie James, who "attacked" a fan after returning to Valley Ranch, sums up the Cowboys' biggest problem in my opinion.
James' take: "There were a lot of personalities put on this team and we didn't jell. We didn't find a way to jell. This past game, you could see it. When you know you've got something on the line and you're playing to go into the playoffs, you know what you have to do, and you go out there and stink it up like that? That just speaks for itself."
I think Phillips is a great defensive coordinator. I think he deserves a lot of credit for the defense's turnaround (minus the final 2 weeks). Since he got more involved with defensive play-calling, that's when the defense started racking up the sacks and getting lots of pressure on QBs.

But I'm shocked that the Cowboys will head into a new $1 billion stadium with much higher ticket prices with same players and coaches in place.
