Plaxico Burress suspended 4 games

After shooting himself in the leg at Latin Quarter nightclub on Friday and turning himself in yesterday to face illegal weapons possession, Plaxico Burress was suspended by the New York Giants for 4 games. They also placed him on the reserve non-football injury list.

This move ends his season, which is not a surprise to many. The question is has Burress played his last game ever for the Giants. I think he has.

But you wouldn't necessarily get that impression from the way the Giants organization have discussed his situation.
"I had two conversations with Plaxico today, and it was obvious that he understood the magnitude of this situation," Reese said Tuesday. "He knows that we are here to support him and help him get healthy."

"Our concern all along has been for Plaxico the person, not Plaxico the player," team chairman Steve Tisch said. "We are here to support him and his family as he recovers from his wound and deals with some serious issues."
Antonio Pierce is still possibly in trouble for his involvement. And Ahmad Bradshaw - not Derrick Ward - is now being reported as the third player at the club. Bradshaw served 30 days in jail in Virginia this summer.

NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg says that Burress should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Some may criticize him for that, but Bloomberg has no alternative. It's already perceived that athletes receive special treatment. The uproar would be enormous by the general public if it were perceived that Burress received special treatment in this case.
