The Deuce is on the loose
The New Orleans Saints have cut RB Deuce McAllister, who owns team records for rushing yards (6,096) and rushing TDs (49). McAllister is a 2-time Pro Bowler (2002, 2003), but hasn't had a 1000-yard rushing season since 2006.
However, both McAllister and Loomis have left the possibility of a return (at a reduced rate) open.
"Decisions like this are always very difficult ones to make," [Saints GM Mickey] Loomis said. "Deuce has epitomized hard work, leadership and productivity throughout his career and has been a source of great pride for all of us associated with the team."Considering McAllister's history of knee injuries and that he was due to make $7 million next season, it was expected that the team would part ways with the RB.
However, both McAllister and Loomis have left the possibility of a return (at a reduced rate) open.
"We've left that door ajar," Loomis said, but added, "I wouldn't call it likely."McAllister, who had arthroscopic knee surgery six weeks ago, also had his 2005 and 2007 seasons cut short due to knee injuries. But he expects to be ready for the start of the season.
