Bears sign tackle Kevin Shaffer
The Chicago Bears and tackle Kevin Shaffer agreed to a three-year deal worth $8 million. Shaffer was released by the Cleveland Browns earlier this month.
John St. Clair, who was expected to start at right tackle for the Bears, opted to sign with the Browns for three years. The Bears are to believed to offer St. Clair only half of what the Browns offered him, which was $9 million over three years.
Earlier in the off-season, the Bears signed guard Frank Omiyale. But Omiyale, who has been playing tackle at the Bears' mini-camp, prefers to play tackle.
In Shaffer's three seasons with the Browns, he started 16 games at left tackle and 31 games at right tackle.
