Derrick Ward to visit with Broncos today
Since free agency began, free-agent RB Derrick Ward has visited with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals (both on Saturday). Today Ward is going to visit with the Denver Broncos.
However, there is still the chance that Ward could end up back with the Giants.
Ward finished 2008 with 1,025 rushing yards as a backup to Brandon Jacobs. Ward averaged 5.6 yards per carry and had 215 rushing yards in the Giants' win over the Carolina Panthers in week 16. That win clinched home-field advantage for the Giants in the NFC playoffs.
However, there is still the chance that Ward could end up back with the Giants.
"They left the door open for me and I know they would love to have me back, but it's a business," Ward said on Sirius NFL Radio on Friday, "and the business aspect of it right now is I feel I'm a starter and I proved I can help a team win some games and reach a Super Bowl level."It is a business. And as Michael Lombardi of National Football Post and NFL Network said regarding free-agent RBs in general is that many teams have seen what mid-round draft picks a la Steve Slaton in Houston can do and would prefer to spend minimum rookie money on adding a back than spending in free agency.
