Does Sensabaugh signing make sense?

The Dallas Cowboys signed safety Gerald Sensabaugh to a one-year deal. With the exception of free safety Ken Hamlin, the Cowboys had little depth and experience at the safety position.

On the field, signing Sensabaugh makes sense. He started 13 games (10 at SS, 3 at FS) for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2008. Sensabaugh had 70 tackles and 4 interceptions last year.

But the Cowboys have begun an effort to clean up their locker room by parting ways with Pacman Jones, Tank Johnson and Terrell Owens. This signing bucks that trend.

Sensabaugh has been busted in each of the past 3 off-seasons. I suppose the good news for Cowboys' fans is that he has already been arrested this off-season. If past performance is any indication, that means he will stay out of jail until the 2010 off-season. In other words, after his one-year contract has expired.

As a 5th-round selection by the Jaguars in the 2005 NFL draft, Sensabaugh has played for Cowboys secondary coach Dave Campo and special teams coach Joe DeCamillis in Jacksonville.
