John St. Clair signs with Cleveland

The Chicago Bears had very little depth at offensive tackle so it seemed likely that they would re-sign unrestricted free-agent John St. Clair, who started at left tackle for the Bears in 2008.

Instead, St. Clair agreed to a 3-year deal with the Cleveland Browns worth $9 million with $1.25 million guaranteed. The Bears are believed to have offered a 3-year, $4.5 million deal to St. Clair.

If the Bears signed St. Clair, he was expected to start at right tackle. Chris Williams, the Bears' 2008 first-round pick, is expected to start at left tackle.

Some tackles available as free agents include Orlando Pace, Marvel Smith and Kevin Shaffer. Even if they sign one of these guys, they will likely consider drafting a tackle with their first-round pick (18th overall).
