Nick Collins not attending Packers' voluntary workouts

Green Bay Packers safety Nick Collins earned a Pro Bowl bid last year, his fourth season (of his five-year rookie contract) with the Packers.

The NFL's current collective bargaining agreement doesn't allow for rookies drafted after the first round to sign contracts in excess of four years. Before that change became effective, Collins, the Packers' second-round draft pick in 2005, signed his five-year contract.

Collins had intended on participating in the off-season workout program, which began Monday. However, in light of the fact the team won't be initiating contract negotiations with him, Collins has decided to not attend the off-season program, which is voluntary.

The only mandatory session is the team's mini-camp from June 23rd to 25th.

Collins had 99 tackles and seven interceptions in 2008. Three of those interceptions were returned for touchdowns.
