Rams release Torry Holt
Earlier this week, the St. Louis Rams released LT Orlando Pace, who the Rams selected with the #1 overall draft pick in 1997.
Today, they released WR Torry Holt, who was selected with the 6th overall pick in 1999 by the Rams.
Both Pace and Holt have made the Pro Bowl seven times in their careers.
Holt ranks 11th all-time in NFL receptions (869) and 14th all-time in receiving yards (12,660). However, the 33-year-old WR had 29 fewer receptions (64) and 393 fewer yards (796) in 2008 than he had in 2007.
Despite the drop in his production, Holt led the Rams in receptions and receiving yards in 2008.
Considering his decline in production, age and health issues (knees) for his cap cost, it's not surprising that the Rams let him go.
Possible teams that could be interested in Holt include the Jets, who say they are not interested, Bears, Ravens, Jaguars among others.

Rams owner Chip Rosenbloom issued the following statement: “The Rams will forever be grateful for the way Torry Holt represented the Rams on the field and in the community. He is an All-Pro in every sense of the word. Over the past 10 seasons Torry has proven himself to be one of the finest wide receivers in league history. This is a difficult decision because Torry has meant so much to the organization. In my mind and for all Rams fans, Torry will always be a Ram and we wish him and his family nothing but the best as they move forward.”Holt was due to earn $9,104,714 in 2009 and he was unwilling to re-work his deal to remain with the Rams.
