USC begins spring with QB competition

USC's Pete Carroll acted like a jackass at the press conference for departing USC QB Mark Sanchez, who will be one of the top two QBs selected in this year's NFL draft. The other QB will be Georgia junior Matthew Stafford.

Yesterday, the Trojans began the search to find the replacement for Sanchez with a QB competition as they kicked off spring practice. Former USC QB Matt Leinart was in town to watch. And perhaps to participate in a hot tub party later on as well.

The four QBs competing to become the starter are Aaron Corp, Mitch Mustain, Matt Barkley and Garrett Green. Corp is a third-year sophomore, Mustain is a junior, Barkley is a freshman that was ranked as the top prospect by Rivals.com and Green is a senior.
"Early on . . . we'll give everyone an opportunity to be No. 1 and then we'll just kind of play with the numbers [to determine] who's leading or who deserves it," [QB coach Jeremy Bates] said.
Green will also play WR and special teams, which means he's least likely to earn the starting QB job.
