Cardinals release Edgerrin James

Per FoxSports.com, the Arizona Cardinals have released running back Edgerrin James today.

The move comes as no surprise. James has stated various times that he wanted out of Arizona and, on Saturday, the Cardinals drafted Ohio State RB Chris "Beanie" Wells when he fell to them at the 31st overall pick.

James, who is 11th all-time in rushing yards (12,121), was due a salary of $5 million in 2009.

In the middle of last season, James was benched in favor of rookie Tim Hightower. However, James led the team in rushing last season with 514 yards.
