Chiefs sign Zach Thomas

Per Adam Teicher of The Kansas City Star, the Chiefs have signed linebacker Zach Thomas. The terms of the deal weren't mentioned, but he is likely to have signed for the league minimum.

The Chiefs have been awful for the past two years. There are two ways to change the culture of losing - a youth movement and/or adding veteran leadership.

Last year, the Chiefs had 12 overall draft picks and had a solid draft.

Although Thomas is closer to 40 than to 30, he brings veteran leadership to a team that has a lot of whiners - Larry Johnson, Brian Waters, etc.

He is likely to start this year as one of the ILB positions. Mike Vrabel, who came to KC as part of the Matt Cassel deal, and Derrick Johnson are also expected to start.

The Chiefs, who hold the third overall pick in this year's draft, will likely select Aaron Curry of Wake Forest, who many believe is the safest pick in this year's draft.
