Per Giants' owner, Plaxico ignored Giants

New Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler, who was traded by the Broncos, reached out to WR Plaxico Burress, who was released by the Giants, to gauge his interest in Da Bears.

One of the things that Cutler and Burress shared in common was that they ignored their team and, not surprisingly, neither team's owner liked it.
“[G.M.] Jerry Reese had attempted to contact him on a number of occasions and was not able to get a hold of him which, to be honest with you, irritated me quite a bit,” [Giants co-owner John] Mara said [yesterday on Sirius radio].

“[T]he case was postponed again so we felt like that would continue to leave us in limbo,” Mara said. “We were attempting to settle one of the two grievances out there with him, one of which was decided in his favor just the other day, and we were not having much success in those settlement discussions and we just felt like enough was enough and it’s time to just move on.”
Burress faces possible jail time pending his case, which was adjourned until mid-June, for gun possession charges and a possible suspension under the league's personal conduct policy. In other words, whether Burress ignored the team or not, it was likely that the Giants would have parted ways with the troubled receiver.
