Browns sign WR Mike Furrey

Per Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, the Browns have signed free agent wide receiver Mike Furrey. Terms were not disclosed.

Before playing wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, who released him this off-season, Furrey started 11 games at safety for the St. Louis Rams in 2005. In that season, he had 55 tackles and four interceptions.

In 2006 (his best as a receiver), Furrey led the NFL in receptions (98) and had 1,086 receiving yards. He scored six touchdowns as well.

The future for the Browns top receivers in 2008 are uncertain.

Braylon Edwards has been the subject of trade rumors and Donte' Stallworth faces DUI manslaughter charges. Also, the Browns traded TE Kellen Winslow Jr. to the Buccaneers this off-season.

The Browns have added five other receivers this off-season. They added Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massaqoui, both second-round picks, through the draft. David Patten, Devale Ellis and rookie Jordan Norwood of Penn State were signed via free agency.
