Dolphins sign Will Allen to extension

Per Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald, Dolphins cornerback Will Allen signed a two-year extension with the 'Phins.

Allen, who was in the final year of his contract, will earn $16.2 million over the next three years with $10 million of it guaranteed. (In addition, Drew Rosenhaus, Allen's agent, got Allen and his friends a discount on lunch at the Dolphins' cafeteria.)

"It's a no-brainer,'' Rosenhaus said. "We're happy to sign him to the extension. It was a real pleasure working with Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland over the past few weeks to get it done, too.''

While Allen starts at right cornerback, the Dolphins will need to fill the vacancy created on the left side by Andre Goodman's departure to Denver.

The Dolphins drafted corners in the first two rounds of this year's draft when they selected Vontae Davis (Illinois) in the first round and Sean Smith (Utah) in the second round. They also signed free agent Eric Green from Arizona.

Allen, the Giants' first-round pick in 2001, had 50 tackles, three interceptions and one sack in 2008.
