Jets' owner wouldn't veto Plaxico acquisition
Per Rich Cimini of the Daily News, Jets' owner Woody Johnson wouldn't stand in the way if GM Mike Tannenbaum (or coach Rex Ryan) wanted troubled, perhaps soon-to-be-imprisoned receiver Plaxico Burress to return to the Meadowlands.
Plaxico's case has been adjourned until June as his attorney attempts to negotiate a plea deal seeking no jail time. However, the minimum jail term for the gun charge Plaxico faces is 3 1/2 years.
Tannenbaum reportedly called Plaxico's agent before the draft performing "due diligence" and Ryan hasn't ruled out the possibility of Plaxico joining the Jets.
Granted, the only proven receiver on the Jets' roster is Jerricho Cotchery. But tight end Dustin Keller, when not in Eric Mangini's dawg house, and Leon Washington both possess good pass-catching skills.

"We're going to look for talent where we can find it," Johnson said Saturday in an interview with the Daily News. "If a guy has committed a crime and is in jail, obviously we can't take him. We're committed to improving the team. The Jets lost Laverneus Coles to the Bengals via free agency after the Jets restructured Coles' deal.
"They don't need my permission. They'll talk to me, obviously. Mike has to make the final choice. I'll weigh in, like I do frequently, but it's his decision. It's all based on whether the individual can help the team or not."
