Maroney had a broken bone in his shoulder
Last year, New England Patriots RB Laurence Maroney played in only three games and was placed on injured reserve on October 20th.
Per Christopher Gasper of the Boston Globe, Maroney says the "issues" relating to his shoulder were a "broken bone."
In his first two seasons (2006 and 2007), Maroney rushed a combined 360 times for 1,580 yards and 12 touchdowns.
In fantasy football leagues, many owners are likely to shy away from Maroney. And with a crowded backfield (Sammy Morris, newcomer Fred Taylor, Kevin Faulk, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, etc.), Maroney may not get the carries to warrant a high draft pick in 2009.
With a "chip on his shoulder," however, Maroney may be a good pick if he slips far enough.

"I had a broken bone and I was trying to play with it," said Maroney. "It's kind of hard to sit here and play and not tell people what is going on. Everybody is going to think one way because they don't really know what's going on. I dare anybody in this crowd to play football with a broken bone in your shoulder and you tell me how long you're going to last out there.Maroney, who says his legs are "feeling fresher than ever," is looking forward to "proving everybody wrong" since there are "a lot of people that are counting me out and doubting me."
"Doing it the second game and still trying to play, I feel like it still shows my toughness and my dedication to the team and how much I really want to contribute. The shoulder is great. Not good, great."
