Ramses Barden, "natural-born athlete"?
New York Giants rookie receiver Ramses Barden is a "natural-born athlete" according to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger.
Barden's father Al wanted him to be a basketball player and Ramses started on an AAU team that included Lakers' Jordan Farmar, the Celtics' Gabe Pruitt, the Pistons' Amir Johnson and UCLA's Josh Shipp.
In fact, Barden was allowed to play football, because his father thought it would toughen him up for basketball.
Instead, Barden went on to become one of only three I-AA players to catch 50+ touchdowns in a college career.
"The day he was born, when the doctor handed him to the nurse, they put him on his stomach and he was yelling and yelling. He didn't like that a little bit," Al Barden said last week from his home in Altadena, Calif. "The next thing I know, he was on his back. I looked at the nurse, she looked at me and I said, 'Did he just do what I think he did?' She said, 'I think so because I didn't do it.' "He turned over by himself. This happened."As a big target (6-foot-6 and 229 pounds) like Plaxico Burress, the difference is you don't have to worry "where Ramses was the night before a game," as his college coach Rich Ellerson said.

"At Cal Poly we were a bunch of nerds. But we were going to be nerds who kicked your butt and corrected your homework," said Ellerson, who left the school in December to become the head coach at Army. "We were trying to be something different and special. He bought into that, he embraced that, he's the manifestation of it."I pesonally believe that the Giants got one of the steals of the draft in Barden. And, being a Cowboys' fan, that really disappoints me.
