Tampa Bay has called Plaxico
According to Steve Wyche of NFL.com, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made an exploratory call to free-agent Plaxico Burress.
Although he is a free agent in football terms, Plaxico's freedom may be short-lived due to the gun charges he faces that carry a minimum 3 1/2 years in jail.
The Bucs did not comment on the story per Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times.
In addition to the Bucs, the New York Jets are believed to be the other team of the two teams that agent Drew Rosenhaus says has expressed an interest in Burress.
The Bucs traded for tight end Kellen Winslow this off-season and re-signed Michael Clayton as well as Antonio Bryant, who was designated the team's franchise player.
Of all the wide receivers returning from the 2008 roster, the team's next leading wideout in terms of receiving yards behind Bryant (1248) and Clayton (484) is Maurice Stovall (25).
