Thomas Jones to report to Jets' OTAs next week
New York Jets running back Thomas Jones, who has not participated in the Jets' off-season program, "will attend the Jets OTA next Wednesday," per agent Drew Rosenhaus through Twitter.
Although he led the AFC in rushing (1312 yards) last year, Jones is 30 years old. Not many running backs put up big numbers after 30.
The Jets are dealing with another unhappy running back in Leon Washington, who stopped participating in the team's off-season program when he felt the Jets "lowballed" him with their initial offer. The Jets drafted Iowa running back Shonn Greene in the third round of this year's draft.
“I will admit that we are in some discussions with the team,” Rosenhaus said Tuesday at the NFL Spring Meeting. “He’s not unhappy. There is no acrimony, and who knows? He may even be showing up in the near future. I don’t think this situation is as bad as people are making it out to be, and we’re hopeful he will be back in the fold and there won’t be any issues.”Jones, who has two years remaining on his contract, is due to earn $900,000 this year and $2.8 million in 2010.
