Vikings to use Harvin in Wildcat formation?
One of the ways that the Minnesota Vikings will get the ball into the hands of Percy Harvin, who was their first-round pick in this year's draft, is to use him in the Wildcat offense, according to Chip Scoggins of the Star Tribune.
The Vikings are holding their mandatory mini-camp this weekend and Harvin was taking some direct snaps on Saturday.
Per Scoggins, Vikings offensive coordinator Darren Bevell has added 20-30 plays to the Vikings' playbook that have the primary purpose of getting the ball in their playmaker's hands.
"He's very athletic," Bevell said. "In terms of mentally, he's struggled a little bit. It's not something that we didn't expect. We've really put a lot on his plate. He's swimming a little bit, but that's to be expected."
"They just want me to learn multiple positions," Harvin said. "We don't know quite where I'm going to play right now. I'm just learning kind of a little bit of everything. I'm just working hard and whatever they need me to play, that's what I'll do."
The Vikings will also use Harvin in the return game, per Rick Alonso of the Pioneer Press. Special teams coach Brian Murphy says Harvin's "pretty instinctual and he has a good feel for it."
Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, who interviewed for many head-coaching vacancies this off-season, says that he's "so glad" he doesn't have to game plan for Harvin.
"I'm so glad [Harvin] is on our team," Frazier said, "so we don't have to come up with a plan for him because that's exactly what you end up having to do is game plan a guy like Percy Harvin. Fortunately for us, I'll be watching other teams try to defend he and Adrian and good luck to those defenses."
