Williams' stint with Niners over before it starts

The San Francisco 49ers have released safety Jimmy Williams, who signed with the team in January.
"Right now, it's just ... we just felt that it was the best thing to do," [49ers coach Mike] Singletary said. "It is a numbers game. It is one of those things. We feel good about the guys we have. We wanted to give it a look and see how it would work out, and just felt like, 'You know what, right now's the best time to make that decision.'"
The Falcons, who drafted Williams in the second round in 2006, released him in June 2008 due to weight problems.

Williams was out of the NFL last year.

Today was the first day of the Niners' organized team activities (OTAs) and Singletary wasn't pleased with today's performance. He summed up what went wrong in one word.
Everything. Everything. I don’t even want to get started because I don’t have that much time,’’ Singletary said.
The Niners signed seventh-round safety Curtis Taylor to a four-year contract and Singletary says that the team is "very interested in keeping" safety Mark Roman, who has been granted permission to explore a trade.
