Winfield excused from Vikings' mini-camp
Minnesota Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield was excused from the team's mandatory mini-camp this weekend to attend the funeral of a close friend's mother, according to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
He was the only player from the 85-man roster to not attend this weekend's mini-camp.
Marcus McCauley started opposite Cedric Griffin, who agreed to a five-year contract extension this off-season, in practice.
The Vikings and the Winfield camp were engaged in contract negotiations last month, but those negotiations broke down. Winfield, who is in the final year of his six-year contract, is due to earn $6 million this year.
Winfield, who earned his first Pro Bowl trip last season, had two interceptions, two sacks and 96 tackles.
