Cowboys cut Greg Ellis
Ever since the Dallas Cowboys sent linebacker Greg Ellis home from the team's OTAs last month, it was only a matter of time before they released him.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the Cowboys released Ellis today after no luck in finding a willing trade partner, per Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News.
Ellis, the team's first-round pick in 1998, was due a base salary of $4.15 million. While the Cowboys will save that money, they will still owe Ellis a "completion bonus" of $1.5 million. That number, however, should drop with his next contract.

"The future is bright for Greg," [agent James D.] Williams said. "The good thing is he can play in any system now for the most part."
Archer speculates on who might a potential suitor for Ellis, such as Miami, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, Cincinnati and Carolina.
With 77 career sacks, Ellis ranks eighth all-time in Cowboys' history. He had eight sacks last year.
