Rex Ryan tells Crowder to "send his father" after him
The war of words between Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder and New York Jets coach Rex Ryan continues...
Last week, Crowder congratulated Ryan on being "the OTA Super Bowl winner."
Ryan responded yesterday by saying preparation leads to championships.
"I don't know this Channing Crowder, but all I know is he's all [tatted] up," he said. "He's right about one thing: I'm a first-year head coach. But I've been around the game my entire life. I'm no different than I've ever been. It's just that more people are listening. I think he's wrong. I think you do win in June. I think you win with your preparation."
Ryan then added, with a smile, "If I was younger, I'd handle him myself."
Not surprisingly, Crowder had a response to Ryan's comments.
''He says he'd take care of me if he was younger?'' Crowder told the Miami Herald last night. "I'd have beat the hell out of that big old joker. Or if he really wants to get retro, my daddy or my uncle could have handled him. Don't get big. Win with preparation? Start watching some tape and learn who your rival is. Come on now.''
Today, Ryan responded to Crowder telling him to send his father after him.
"Let's see if he can top this one," Ryan said (laughing). "I've walked over tougher guys going to a fight." Later, he added, "He can send himself and his father after me."
Speaking of fathers, Buddy Ryan, father of Rex Ryan, says that the Jets could be in the Super Bowl if their offensive and defensive lines stay healthy.
Mandelbaum! Mandelbaum! Mandelbaum! It's go time. I expect to see Buddy try to lift a TV over his head or something.
