Vontae Davis - not a noisy driver?

Contrary to a report in The Daily Illini, the University of Illinois student paper, the Miami Dolphins dispute that Vontae Davis was arrested on June 9th, per Brian Biggane of the Palm Beach Post.

The Daily Illini reported that Davis was arrested for "unnecessary vehicular noise" and "driving without a valid license."

However, according to a team spokesman, Davis was in Miami that morning for a team practice.

"It would have been almost physically impossible for him to have been in Champaign that day," [Dolphins spokesman Harvey] Greene said.

Davis, who was the team's first-round pick, was linked to "character concerns" prior to the NFL draft. He said he hasn't been in Champaign (IL) since February. However, he had his wallet stolen before leaving school and he reported the theft.

Was someone else using his stolen/lost driver's license?

"That's the only thing I can think of," said Davis. "But that shouldn't be able to work if the police know that person doesn't look like me."

Most importantly, it sure is comforting to know that the Champaign police are ridding their streets of "noisy" drivers.
