Brian Westbrook is "ahead of schedule"

NFC Championship: Philadelphia Eagles v Arizona Cardinals

Eagles president Joe Banner expects running back Brian Westbrook to be ready for the season opener against the Carolina Panthers, according to Bob Brookover of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

"We're very optimistic about Westbrook," Banner said. "He's doing great. He's ahead of schedule, but we're still going to be very conservative with him."

Therefore, the Eagles are very unlikely to add a running back before camp or the start of the season.

"We're a little inexperienced, but at this point at running back we think we have some real quality people there," Banner said. "We expect that we're going to go into camp and the guys we have are going to put us in a good position to be successful. Running back is one of those positions where younger players can step in and have success."

The Eagles drafted LeSean McCoy in the second round this year. McCoy was the fourth running back drafted behind Denver's Knowshon Moreno, Indianapolis' Donald Brown and Arizona's Chris "Beanie" Wells.

Other backs on the roster include Lorenzo Booker, Kyle Eckel and Leonard Weaver.
