Will Mike Shanahan coach the Redskins in 2010?
In his first year as Washington Redskins head coach, Jim Zorn finished 8-8.
For a first-year head coach that made the transition straight from QB coach in Seattle, that's a solid performance. However, 8-8 means the Redskins finished dead last in the highly-competitive NFC East.
In addition to finishing last in his division, Zorn also finished last among the four rookie head coaches in 2008. The other three - Baltimore's John Harbaugh, Miami's Tony Sparano and Atlanta's Mike Smith - all made the playoffs. Smith won the NFL Coach of the Year award.
In his Sunday at the Post column this week, Michael Lombardi of National Football Post writes, "There was a positive reaction from my NFL friends to my pick of Mike Shanahan potentially being the next coach of the Redskins if things don’t go well this year in Washington."
Lombardi points out that Shanahan will be visiting as many camps as possible to "keep up with the game" and that Washington is likely to be on his list of destinations.
However, there is likely to be another opening within the division at the end of the year as Wade Phillips is in the final year of his contract in Dallas.
So, if Zorn is out and the Redskins want Shanahan, will the feelings be mutual?
