Winfield frustrated by slow pace of negotiations

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield, who is entering the final year of his contract, is frustrated by the lack of progress towards getting a new deal done, according to Sean Jensen of the Pioneer Press.

Winfield says that the team has had only "very minimal" talks with Ashanti Webb, Winfield's agent.

"I didn't expect to be in July without a deal," Winfield said. "Personally, I'm a little disappointed. They consider me a core player, but they're not showing me that."

"If they want me here, they should be able to get a deal done. There shouldn't be a problem," Winfield said. "If they don't, then they need to say that and let's work toward a resolution that works out good for everyone."

He wouldn't use the "T" word, but Winfield is considering a move to Houston, where he has family and has been working out for the past month.

Winfield, who was the Bills' first-round pick in 1999, also wouldn't say whether he hold out of training camp, but he says that he feels "stronger, faster and quicker" and he's "ready to go" for the upcoming season.

"It's too much uncertainly for me," Winfield said. "One day, I'm hearing 'He's a core player, and we're going to do everything to get him signed.' Next day, I'm hearing (from Webb), 'We're not close.' "

Winfield is one of the top corners in the league even though he's 32 years old. However, the Vikings are likely waiting to see how the Brett Favre (contract) situation will play out first.
