Collie has inside track for third receiver spot

Indianapolis Colts rookie receiver Austin Collie, the team's fourth-round pick out of BYU, has impressed the coaches with his production and work ethic, according to Phillip B. Wilson of the Indianapolis Star.

Wilson points out that Collie and Pierre Garcon were expected to compete to be the team's third receiver behind Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez. However, Garcon has had a couple of drops in the Colts' two pre-season games.

"He has certainly shown the ability to be a clutch player and catch the ball in tough situations, and can run with it after the catch," [Colts coach Jim] Caldwell said. "He also has a real fine understanding of where he's supposed to be, and I think that's the really important thing, particularly when you're working on your timing with the quarterback."

"He's got an attitude where he's like a gym rat," Caldwell said. "He's in early and stays late. He has a bit of a perfectionist attitude about all of his work and preparation."

Collie leads the Colts with six receptions through two pre-season games. Last year, Collie had 106 catches for 1,538 yards and 15 touchdowns at BYU.
