Colts sign Donald Brown
The Indianapolis Colts have signed Donald Brown, their first-round pick out of UConn, to a five-year contract, per Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star.
Brown was the second running back drafted behind Knowshon Moreno of Denver and one of three running backs selected in the first round.
"With rookies particularly, it's never good to have them miss any time because it's all valuable,'' team president Bill Polian said. "We're happy we got it done. Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't. But the last couple of years we've been able to get it done and that's a positive.''
As a junior running back at UConn last season, Brown led the nation in rushing yards (2,083). In 13 games last year, he rushed for over 200 yards three times and over 150 yards eight times.
While Joseph Addai may be the starter in Indy, Addai has struggled to stay healthy. Last year, Addai only had one game in which he rushed at least 20 times. In 12 games, Addai carried the ball only 155 times and rushed for 544 yards.
In a platoon, Brown should get around ten carries per game and get in the ballpark of 700 rushing yards. However, if Addai can't stay healthy (again), Brown has huge upside in fantasy football leagues.
