Crabtree willing to sit out for the year?

Former Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree, who was drafted by the 49ers with the tenth overall pick, still hasn't reported to training camp. And his advisor and cousin says that Crabtree may sit out the entire year.

"We are prepared to do it," [Crabtree's cousin David] Wells said. "Michael just wants fair market value. They took him with the 10th pick and you have Darrius Heyward-Bey [the seventh overall pick by the Oakland Raiders] getting $38 million? This week is crucial. Michael was one of the best players in the draft and he just wants to be paid like one of the best players. This week is very crucial."

Although Crabtree was widely-regarded as the top receiver in the draft, the Raiders made Darrius Heyward-Bey the first receiver drafted with the seventh overall pick.

Despite Crabtree's cousin blabbing to the media, his agent Eugene Parker tells ESPN that, "... I'm not a guy who makes threats. Nor am I a guy who negotiates in the public. I don't know where this came from but no such threat has been made."

If Parker is telling the truth, Crabtree needs to fire his idiot cousin as an adviser.

Otherwise, Crabtree is setting himself up to fail. After posting gaudy numbers in Tech's spread offense and having off-season surgery, there were already some folks questioning how his collegiate success (he's won two consecutive Fred Biletnikoff awards) will translate to the next level.

Sitting out a year certainly wouldn't be the ideal way to quiet those concerns.
