Clowney was inactive due to tweet about playing time
Plenty of NFL players have tweeted things that they probably wish they hadn't. Add Jets receiver David Clowney to that list.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan said that Clowney was inactive against the Titans due to a tweet he made about his (lack of) playing time.
"To me, this is about our team," said Ryan, per Dave Hutchinson of the Newark Star-Ledger. "No individual is bigger than our team. If I feel a guy isn't putting the team first, I'll put the guy down. That's just the way I feel. You're right, there's no reason David Clowney shouldn't be up every week.
"I wanted to see how he would respond. He did a great job. He worked his butt off (last week)."
After the Patriots' game (week 2), Clowney tweeted, "1 play in the 1st Half, 4 plays in the 2nd half,.... A bit disappointed about my playing time but very happy and satisfied about the win."
Clowney, who was the Packers' fifth-round pick in 2007, still hasn't caught a pass this season.
