Trade for Philip Rivers in your fantasy league...now

If Chargers QB Philip Rivers is on your fantasy roster, I have good news.

If Rivers is not on your fantasy roster, is your starting quarterback's first name Peyton, Tom or Drew? If your answer is "no," keep reading. (Actually, if your answer is "yes," keep reading, too.)

While the NFL trade deadline passed (Tuesday), most fantasy football leagues have a trade deadline that occurs in the next 3-4 weeks. One player I would suggest you target in a trade, if it's a team need, is Rivers, as I mentioned in this morning's Fantasy Football Weekly podcast.

In his past three games, Rivers has thrown for 831 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. On the season, he's quietly averaging over 300 passing yards per game.

Last year, he led the NFL in passer rating (105.5) and threw for 4009 yards, 34 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions.

More importantly than what he's done so far is the competition he will face going forward.

If your fantasy league has its championship game in week 16 (as most leagues do), look at the pass defenses he faces beginning in week 12: Chiefs (25th vs pass), Browns (23rd), Cowboys (26th), Bengals (28th) and Titans (32nd).

Note: ranks based on passing yards allowed per game through six weeks.

So in other words, as you make your playoff push/run, the toughest pass defense your fantasy QB will face is the Cleveland Browns.

And you would face the passing defense that allowed Tom Brady to throw five touchdowns in one quarter -- and, in a snowstorm nonetheless -- in your championship game.

Can it get much easier than that?
