Clinton Portis placed on IR

Redskins running back Clinton Portis is done for the year.

According to the Washington Post, the Redskins placed Portis on injured reserve (IR), which ends his season, and it's possible that he will call it quits completely.

"If it's my time and I look back today, I think I have had a great career," Portis said on ESPN 980 radio (via the Washington Post).

However, Portis' agent Drew Rosenhaus tweeted, "The decision to place Clinton on IR is purely a precaution, and he will be ready for 2010 and beyond. We are very optimistic about his Redskins future."

Portis suffered a concussion in week 8 and hasn't played since. Ladell Betts, who was his back-up, was injured in week 11 and is also on IR.

Rock Cartwright has 41 carries in the past three games for 144 yards and he has caught 13 passes for 130 yards. Meanwhile, Quinton Ganther had eight carries for 46 yards last week.

This week, the Redskins face the Oakland Raiders, who have allowed the third-most fantasy points to opposing running backs this season. No team has allowed more rushing touchdowns than the Raiders have this season.
