Poll of the Day: Will Drew Brees break Dan Marino's record in Week 16?
Two players in NFL history have thrown for 5,000-plus yards: Dan Marino and Drew Brees.
After this weekend, it's likely that there will be three 5,000-yard seasons (but still by only two quarterbacks).
Brees, who threw for 5,069 yards in 2008, is only 220 yards away from his second 5,000-yard season. In every game this season, Brees has thrown for 258 yards or more. In fact, he has thrown for less than 300 yards in only three of 14 games.
Five of his 300-yard games have come in the past five weeks. During that five-game span, Brees has thrown for 1,776 (355.2 per game), 16 touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for a touchdown during that stretch. And last week, he threw his second 400-yard game of the season.
While it seems like a sure thing that Brees will reach 5,000 yards this week, it's more likely than not that he will throw for the 305 yards he needs to break Marino's record of 5,084 yards. If he does, he would then have another week to beat his own record.
Will Brees throw for 305 yards this week and break Marino's record? Or will he fall short and have to wait for next week?
