Poll of the Day: Will the Giants and/or Jets make the playoffs this year?
The Giants and Jets play their home games in the same stadium, but the Jets will host the Giants on Christmas Eve.
Both teams are in control of whether or not they make the playoffs since either one that wins out is in the postseason.
For the team that loses, however, it's an uphill battle, especially for the Giants, although not impossible for them to make the playoffs. After both teams suffered bad losses in Week 15, the NYC media is likely to be highly critical of the loser in the press.
Here is what John Trifone wrote in the NFC Playoff Picture and AFC Playoff Picture, respectively, earlier in the week:
New York Giants: The Giants are still alive in the race to win the NFC East, even after their atrocious efforts against the Redskins this past weekend. They are one game behind Dallas, and they will host the Cowboys Week 17. The Giants do have one other concern, though. The Dream Team Philadelphia Eagles have come out of nowhere. If the Giants lose to the Jets this weekend and the Eagles beat the Cowboys, they no longer control their own destiny. Long story short, if the Giants win out, they will win the division and lock up the four seed.
New York Jets: The Jets are coming off a bad loss to the Eagles this past weekend. Fortunately for them, most of the other relevant teams in the playoff hunt also lost. They still hold on to the final playoff spot with a better record in common games than the Bengals (3-2 vs 2-2). The Jets have a big game against the Giants this Saturday and then finish at Miami. They do still control their own destiny, but a loss will open the door to several teams.
Which team will make the postseason? Or will they both suffer the same fate?
