Week 13 Fantasy Football QB Rankings

The Thursday Night Football matchup this week was projected to be the week's highest-scoring game based on the Vegas over/under of 56 points. Instead the teams combined to score 20 points under that total and both starting quarterbacks had disappointing performances.

While Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw for more than 300 yards for the first time since Week 7, he arguably had the worst game of his NFL career.

Not only did Brees see his 54-game streak of consecutive games with at least one touchdown pass come to an end, he threw a career-high five interceptions on Thursday.

Going into this week's game, Brees had multiple touchdowns in every game except for his one-touchdown performance in Week 2. He currently leads the NFL in both passing touchdowns (31) and interceptions thrown (16).

After scoring a minimum of 14 fantasy points in every game this season, Brees scored a season low of three points.

While Brees was bad, Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was not much better.

Ryan threw for a season-low 165 yards to go along with one touchdown and no interceptions. Since he had a Brees-like game (no touchdowns and five interceptions) against the Cardinals a couple of weeks ago, it was not Ryan's worst fantasy performance of the season.

That said, his 10-point performance was his third-lowest of the season. There were 21 quarterbacks (including Brees and Ryan) that finished with at least 12 fantasy points in Week 12.

In other words, fantasy owners counting on the usually reliable Brees and Ryan to help propel them to the fantasy postseason will now need to hope that their other players step up even more to fill the slack.

The Manning Brothers and their favorable matchups

Giants quarterback Eli Manning bounced back after the team's bye and threw for 249 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in a blowout win over the Packers. Manning finished sixth last week in fantasy points (22) and had his second-highest total of the year.

Before the turnaround, Eli had no touchdowns and four interceptions along with an average of 177.3 yards per game in his previous three games.

Through 11 games, the Peyton Manning era in Denver is going even better than anyone could have anticipated. Having missed all of last year due to multiple neck surgeries, Manning is averaging a career-high 296.4 yards per game. In addition, he's on pace to throw 38 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions.

The Manning brothers both have favorable fantasy matchups this week.

Eli faces the Redskins, who have allowed the third-most fantasy points this season. Peyton faces the Buccaneers, who rank last in the league in passing defense (315.5 yards allowed per game).

Some more quarterback notes

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is coming off a season-high 441-yard performance on Thanksgiving and has a more favorable matchup against the Colts this week. Stafford currently leads the NFL in passing yards per game (311.7) and is on pace to finish just shy of 5,000 yards (4,987).

Although he only has a 14:10 touchdown-to-interception ratio this season, all three of Stafford's multiple-touchdown games have occurred in the past five weeks.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton led all quarterbacks in fantasy points (37) last week with his season-best performance. He finished with 306 passing yards, 52 rushing yards, two passing touchdowns and two rushing scores against the Eagles. Despite his slow start, Newton currently ranks sixth in fantasy points among quarterbacks this season.

The Steelers will be without Ben Roethlisberger this week, but their passing defense is currently the league's top-ranked. Pittsburgh has held opposing quarterbacks to single-digit fantasy points in four consecutive games and in five of their past six.

Not only have the Steelers allowed no 300-yard passing games, they have held the opposition to less than 200 passing yards in six consecutive games including their first matchup against Baltimore's Joe Flacco (164 in Week 11). Flacco has 300-yard games sandwiched around his Week 11 dud.

Speaking of AFC North defenses, the Raiders face the Browns this week. Cleveland has held opposing quarterbacks to less than 200 yards in four of their past five games and a total of only two passing touchdowns during that span. Meanwhile, Carson Palmer is coming off his worst performance of the year against his former team: 146 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception.

The top fantasy quarterback this season has been Redskins rookie Robert Griffin III. Through 11 weeks, he is on pace to finish with 3,632 passing yards, 23 passing touchdowns and only six interceptions in addition to rushing for 934 yards and nine touchdowns.

RG3 has back-to-back games with four passing touchdowns against NFC East rivals Philadelphia and Dallas and he faces the Giants on Monday night this week.
