Jets had "very exploratory, informal discussions" about JaMarcus Russell
One of the things the Jets organization wants this year is competition at all positions including quarterback.
"Yeah, I’m comfortable with Mark [Sanchez] being a Jet," GM John Idzik said on WFAN Monday morning (via the Newark Star-Ledger). "I told him as well, we’re going to add competition. ... It’s going to help make Mark and everybody else better."
The Jets have the ninth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft and the extra competition may come from the draft and/or free agency.
Apparently, one of the options on the table might be a guy that Ryan Leaf considers a "bust" and, at a 308 pounds, can double as a defensive tackle.
Orr writes, "More recently, after [ex-GM Mike] Tannenbaum was let go, members of the organization had some very exploratory, informal discussions regarding former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell, the 2007 No. 1 overall pick who flamed out of the NFL after the 2009 season."
From an entertainment perspective, one can only imagine the fun the media will have if the Jets had a quarterback depth chart (in no particular order) of Sanchez, Tebow and JaMarcus.
