Chiefs sign Dwayne Bowe to 5-year deal, tag Branden Albert
The two players that were most likely to be designated with the franchise tag for the Kansas City Chiefs were wide receiver Dwayne Bowe and left tackle Branden Albert.
Not only did they use their franchise tag on Albert, but they also agreed to a five-year deal with Bowe, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
In addition, they signed punter Dustin Colquitt to a five-year deal that makes him the league's highest-paid punter.
Bowe finished with 59 receptions for a team-high 801 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games last season. Compared to his previous two seasons, Bowe averaged roughly 10 receiving yards less per game (61.6) in 2012.
The Chiefs quarterback situation last year was atrocious. While it certainly won't become elite with Alex Smith, it had nowhere to go but up after Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn. In other words, his numbers should improve in 2013.
