Patriots release wide receiver Brandon Lloyd
While there was speculation over the past month or so that it would happen, it has now happened.
Per Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, the Patriots have released wide receiver Brandon Lloyd.
In his only season with the Patriots, Lloyd had a solid-but-not-specular 74 receptions for 911 yards and four touchdowns.
After having a breakout season in his eighth year as a pro back in 2010, Lloyd has spent the past three seasons with Josh McDaniels at Denver, St. Louis and then New England. In his first seven seasons, he never had more than 48 receptions in a season.
It's hard for me to imagine that he will post better numbers than last year wherever he signs, but he is now one of the top free-agent wide receivers on the market.
