(Poll) Will West Virginia QB Geno Smith be a Top 10 Pick in the 2013 NFL Draft?
In our Consensus 2013 NFL Draft Big Board, West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith is the top-ranked quarterback as both Brendan Donahue and I have him at No. 19.
As we have seen in past years, however, the value of the quarterback position and the number of teams without a franchise signal-caller typically means they will get drafted higher than their perceived ability.
Look at the past two drafts for evidence of that.
There have been a total of seven quarterbacks selected in the first half of the first round (top 16 picks) in the past two drafts. While Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III are viewed as franchise-changing quarterbacks, most of the other five in the group were pushed up based on the position they play as much as their high draft status was based on their ability.
Sportsbook.ag has set up some NFL Draft futures/props and the over/under on where Smith will be selected in the 2013 NFL Draft is set at 10.5.
Based on my updated mock draft, Smith is the No. 7 overall pick to the Arizona Cardinals. There are several quarterback-needy teams that could consider Smith in the top 10.
Will Smith be a top-10 pick in this year's draft? Where will he end up?
