Aaron Hernandez has had shoulder surgery this offseason

Not only have the Patriots replaced slot receiver Wes Welker with Danny Amendola, but tight end Rob Gronkowski is still dealing with a persistent infection on his thrice-operated forearm.

According to a report this morning from NFL Network's Ian Rappaport, Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has had offseason shoulder surgery that should sideline him for OTAs and mini-camp.

That said, he should be ready for the start of training camp.

Over the past three seasons, however, Hernandez has missed a total of 10 games and has yet to play more than 14 regular-season games in any season. In 10 games last year, Hernandez had 51 receptions for a career-low 483 yards and five touchdowns.

With the uncertainty of Gronkowski's status for the start of the regular season and the latest news on Hernandez, it makes Jake Ballard even more of a potential sleeper in deeper leagues.

And who knows? Maybe the Patriots will draft Notre Dame's Tyler Eifert or Stanford's Zach Ertz at No. 29? Just kidding ... I think.
