Keenan Allen runs 4.71, 4.75 40's at his Pro Day
Unable to run at the NFL Scouting Combine or Cal's Pro Day, wide receiver prospect Keenan Allen held his old personal pro day today.
After sustaining a PCL injury during the college football season, Allen missed Cal's final three regular-season games and he is still not 100 percent.
According to what trainers told NFL Network's Mike Mayock, Allen's knee is reportedly fully recovered, but he has only regained only 75 to 80 percent of his explosion.
The receiver to whom Allen is most compared is Anquan Boldin and he ran like Boldin today. In his two 40-yard dashes, Allen was timed at 4.71 and 4.75.
While the times are disappointing, speed was never the strength of Allen's game. Like Boldin, Allen is a big and physical receiver with great hands.
After having a huge sophomore season (98/1343/6), Allen had only 61 receptions for 737 yards and six touchdowns in nine games before the injury. He was also held back by the school's poor quarterback play, although the team's quarterback, Zach Maynard, is his brother.
In my latest 2013 NFL mock draft, Allen is the third receiver off the board (after Cordarrelle Patterson and Tavon Austin) to the Vikings at No. 25. (If it plays out like that, he'll feel right at home with the Vikings poor quarterback play.)
