Raiders acquire Matt Flynn; Carson Palmer soon to be a Cardinal?
The Oakland Raiders have announced that they have acquired quarterback Matt Flynn from the Seattle Seahawks for a pair of picks in future drafts.
The Seahawks will get the Raiders' fifth-round pick in 2014 and a conditional pick in 2015.
Per Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports, the Cardinals will likely acquire quarterback Carson Palmer for a late-round pick, but the deal is not yet done. Palmer is/was due to earn a $13 million salary with the Raiders and he is/was unwilling to restructure the deal.
The Cardinals have released John Skelton and as Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com tweets, "No Palmer trade news yet, but this would seem to foreshadow a deal."
After being signed to a three-year deal by the Seahawks last year, Flynn lost out to Russell Wilson for the starting gig. Flynn has two years left on his contract and a total of $11.5 million.
If anything, these moves would seem to reduce the odds that the Raiders or Cardinals draft Geno Smith with the third or seventh pick, respectively, if still available at those spots. That said, I still have Smith going to the Bills with the eighth overall pick in my mock draft. In addition, I expect both teams to use a Day 2 pick on a quarterback.
