Isaiah Pead suspended one game for violating substance-abuse policy

As a rookie, Rams running back Isaiah Pead was third on the depth chart behind Steven Jackson, who is now in Atlanta, and fellow rookie Daryl Richardson, who was drafted five rounds after Pead.

Going into this season, it appears that it would be a relatively open competition for touches between Pead, Richardson and rookie Zac Stacy.

That said, Pead won't be in the mix when the Rams host the Cardinals in Week 1 of the 2013 season.

Per Ian Rapaport of NFL Network, Pead has been suspended for one game for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

Pead had only 10 carries last season for a total of 54 rushing yards in addition to three receptions for 16 yards.

Although Pead can practice with the team and participate in preseason games, a strong performance by either Stacy or Richardson in Week 1 could potentially reduce touches in future weeks.
