Jonathan Stewart (ankles) placed on PUP list

Q: What's worse than a running back having offseason surgery on his ankle?
A: Having offseason surgery on both of his ankles.

For now, those ankles will land Carolina's Jonathan Stewart on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer. While he is eligible to come off that list at any time, it doesn't seem like that will happen soon.

Jones writes that "left ankle has healed well while the right one is “'still an issue.'”

Not only does The Daily Show split the workload with DeAngelo Williams, but Cam Newton has 253 carries for 1,447 yards and 22 touchdowns over the past two seasons.

In other words, I'd shy away from Stewart (and Williams) when fully healthy. Add in the injury concerns and I'll pass completely in re-draft leagues.

At the moment, Stewart and Williams are my 33rd- and 43rd-ranked fantasy running backs, respectively, but I plan on moving Stewart further down in my next update.
