Matt Ryan, Falcons agree to 5-year extension
Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is the latest franchise quarterback to sign a nine-figure contract extension this offseason.
Ryan and the Falcons agreed to a five-year contract extension, which keeps him locked up through 2018, and is worth $103.75 million, per ESPN's Chris Mortensen. In addition, $59 million is guaranteed and Ryan will earn $63 million in the first three years.
In addition to leading the NFL in completion percentage (68.6 percent), Ryan set career highs last year with 4,719 yards, 32 touchdowns and a 99.1 passer rating.
With receivers Julio Jones and Roddy White and tight end Tony Gonzalez, Ryan has one of the league's most talented group of pass-catchers. Plus, the addition of Steven Jackson should give the Falcons a stronger rushing attack, which in turn helps the passing attack.
While there is a scarcity of franchise quarterbacks in (real) football, there is an abundance of them in fantasy football.
Going into the 2013 season, Ryan is my eighth-ranked fantasy quarterback, but my preferred draft strategy is to land the last one remaining out of my top 12 fantasy quarterbacks.
