2013 NFL Preseason Predictions: NFC East (Trifone)
Only four weeks from the NFL regular-season opener on September 5th, here are my preseason predictions for the NFC East:
1. New York Giants: 10-6
I’m a fan of the Giants, but I genuinely think they’re the best team in the NFC East. Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks are among the best wide receiver duos in the game. David Wilson and Andre Brown came on at the end of the year, and create a formidable rushing attack as well. The Giants biggest question marks are on the defensive side of the ball, but I like them to win the division and secure a playoff spot.
2. Dallas Cowboys: 9-7
The Cowboys are a tough team to figure out. They get so much attention because of who they are, and on paper, they appear to be pretty star-studded on both sides of the ball. For my money, DeMarcus Ware is the best defensive end in the game, and if it weren’t for Calvin Johnson, I’d say Dez Bryant is emerging as the game's top receiver. I think that Dallas could be a playoff team this year.
3. Washington Redskins: 7-9
I’m not as sold on Washington as most people seem to be. I think that RGIII is a bit fragile, and the offensive is somewhat gimmicky. I’m not sure that defenses won’t be better prepared for Shanahan’s offensive schemes this year. I think Washington has great potential, and I won’t be the least bit surprised if they come out on top of the division again this year. That said, I’ll take the ‘Skins to have a mediocre season and miss the playoffs.
4. Philadelphia Eagles: 6-10
The Eagles came apart at the seams last year going 4-12 and only 1-5 in the division. I think a fresh start is just what Philadelphia needs. I know that most people have the Eagles winning fewer than six games next year, but I think that the veterans on the team will play more like the team we thought they might be a few years ago. Similar to my logic with the Jets, I believe that lowered expectations will be a good thing for the franchise. If they finish anywhere but last in the division, I think most would be surprised.
All of our contributors will make their division and Super Bowl picks and we will track those on this centralized predictions page.
